The 2026 Burton Family Tree Smooth Operator has been developed to excel in the steep and deep of the Japanese mountains. The mid-stiff flex matched with an ultralight core, a tapered directional shape, and directional camber bend all combine to create a snowboard that is not only exciting and smooth to ride but loves wayfinding through the trees and powder, hitting every natural transition in its path.
Board Type: Powder
Powder snowboards are designed for deep snow. Generally these boards feature a directional shape with a tapered tail for better float and ease of riding.
Flex: 6.5/10 (1=soft, 10=stiff)
Offering a balanced blend of flexibility and stiffness, mid-flex boards are versatile and suitable for all-mountain riding. They provide enough responsiveness for carving while maintaining some forgiveness for playful or casual riding.
Ability Level: Intermediate-Advanced
Intermediate snowboards offer more responsiveness and stability at higher speeds, with a slightly stiffer flex for better control on varied terrain and more advanced manoeuvres.
Advanced snowboards are stiffer and more responsive, designed for high-speed control, precision riding, and handling challenging terrain or tricks.
Shape: Tapered Directional/Directional

A tapered directional snowboard features a shape where the tail is narrower than the nose, providing enhanced control and stability in deeper snow. This design improves floatation in powder and allows for smoother turns, making it ideal for freeride and backcountry riding. While it excels in one direction, the taper helps the board naturally guide you through challenging conditions.

Directional Flex increases pop in the tail of the board while having a stiffer nose that makes the board easier to control in all conditions.
Camber Type: Directional Camber

Directional Camber puts rocker in the nose of the board, adding extra float in powder while retaining the response and stability of traditional camber which offers unmatched power, response, and edge control.
Width: Standard
Standard width boards deliver exceptional edge-to-edge quickness and responsiveness while providing enough platform space for riders with average boot sizes.
Inserts: The Channel
The Burton Channel forgoes the traditional mounting system and introduces a channel for your front and rear inserts. This allows you to fine-tune your stance width and gives you more freedom in your stance location. The Channel is compatible with most major binding brands, but works best with Burton EST bindings.
Board Construction

Laminate: 45° Carbon Highlights
45° Carbon Highlights is a tip to tail carbon layer reduces weight and contains 45° angled fibres, fine tuning the torsional flex to make a more aggressive ride.
Core: Dragonfly 600G Core with Multizone EGD and Squeezebox

The Dragonfly 600G Core features stronger and lighter woods targeted in specific areas to provide more pop and strength while reducing weight along with end-grain woods in impact zones which allows lighter woods to be used in place of heavier woods, reducing weight without compromising strength.
Multizone EGD aligns the wood grain of the core along the heel and toe edge in four separate zones adjacent to the channel, channeling power from the source directly to the edges for ultimate strength and edge control.

Squeezebox consists of thicker, more powerful sections combined with thinner, more flexible sections profiled throughout the core. This enhances energy transfer and makes the board snappier and more stable.
Base: Sintered WFO
Standing for Wide F!#@ing Open, this base made from an extra absorbent, high density sintered material that is infused with a specially formulated wax, resulting in an ultra durable base that rides Wide F!#@ing Open.
Additional Features:
- Balanced Freeride Geometry
A setback camber and stance-centred sidecut makes this board feel like a twin when riding flat based, but still has the tight turns and effortless float you'd expect from a directional board.
Burton is able to maximise pop and performance by overbuilding their boards in the factory, and then using machinery to break it down for you. This allows your board to ride the same from day one, to day 100, season after season.
